Omani-British Art Group, a body of art aficionados from both countries, was launched with an aim to nurture art as a medium that binds nations and people, last week.
The group being set up as a part of the British Omani Society will bring together artists and supporters of arts from both countries and the group will have a particular focus on developing emerging artists.
“I am so pleased to be a part of this group and help support emerging Omani artists, and I hope that other British artists will also get to experience the beauty of Oman as the landscape, the cultural heritage and the people of Oman are an inspiration,” Polly Gedney, a British artist currently living in Oman, said at a reception hosted by the British Embassy that marked the formation of the Group.
She added that a plan for a few Omani artists to visit the UK next year to develop and exhibit their work is currently afoot.
"The British Omani Society is very pleased to be creating this new group of artists and art supporters, that will grow our existing activities in the field of the arts, and continue Oman and the UK's historic and longstanding friendship," said Major General (retired) Richard Stanford, Chairman of the British Omani Society.
The group, a first-of-its-kind in Oman, will be working closely with the Embassy to plan future events in Oman. The British Ambassador, Dr Liane Sanders said, "We are happy to support this initiative to help emerging Omani artists and build on the rich artistic heritage and shared culture of Oman and the UK".
She further said that anyone interested in joining the group can visit the British Omani Society website and join the Society.
