MUSCAT: Oman National Investments Development Company SAOC (Tanmia), one of the largest investment funds of the Sultanate of Oman, has announced a partnership with German-based international hotel chain Deutsche Hospitality, for the establishment of a new property under the IntercityHotel brand in Oman.

IntercityHotel Bawsher, located in an upscale part of Bawshar in Muscat Governorate, is set to be the fourth property to launch in Oman under the IntercityHotel marque.

Announcing the partnership with Deutsche Hospitality, Tanmia said: “As the New Year unfolds, Tanmia continues to pursue promising endeavors, with the most recent one being the signing of a new Deutsche Hospitality hotel in the Middle East. This agreement between Tanmia and Deutsche Hospitality marks the addition of the 4th IntercityHotel in Oman - the IntercityHotel Bawshar Muscat.

“Situated in close proximity to Mall of Oman, the IntercityHotel Bawshar Muscat is poised to embody the perfect blend of Omani warmth and hospitality, coupled with Deutsche Hospitality's international standards of service,” the wholly state-owned investment fund noted in a post over the weekend.

Signing the agreement were Khalid al Balushi, CEO – Tanmia, and Siegfried Nierhaus, Vice President - Middle East at Deutsche Hospitality.

Nierhaus commented: “The year 2024 couldn’t have started in a better way: I am thrilled to announce the first great achievement of the new year for Deutsche Hospitality in the Middle East, with the signing of a new hotel in Muscat with our trusted and long-term partner, Tanmia, a key investment player in Oman.”

With the addition of a fourth property to its expanding portfolio – in less than three years – Deutsche Hospitality has emerged as one of the fastest growing hotel chains in the Sultanate of Oman.

The brand launched with IntercityHotel Nizwa, a 3-star property operating next to a popular water park in Nizwa. It was followed by IntercityHotel Salalah, set up in the heart of Salalah’s Central Business District. But the hotel chain’s flagship property is IntercityHotel Muscat, which is located in the Ministry Enclave at Al Khuwair in Muscat. Launched in September 2022, it boasts 273 guest rooms.

With this latest agreement, Tanmia is also expanding its presence in Oman’s tourism sector. The Fund is a key shareholder in Al Mouj Muscat – the nation’s first integrated tourism complex, and also owns a stake in the luxurious Kempinski Hotel Muscat.

Oman Investment Authority (OIA) holds a 42% share in Tanmia, with the rest shared between the state-owned pension funds, including the Public Authority for Social Insurance, Civil Service Employees Pension Fund and others.
