MUSCAT: The 'Made in Oman' campaign, initiated by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP), is unlocking opportunities to support the marketing of an estimated 10,000 locally manufactured products, say officials associated with this initiative.
Also supporting this landmark endeavour, as it covers the different governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, are the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) and the Omani Products Exhibition (OPEX).
The core objective of the 'Made in Oman' initiative is to underscore the importance of purchasing Omani products, with a special emphasis on the astounding diversity of over 10,000 locally manufactured goods, ranging from food and electricity to pharmaceuticals, metals, textiles, perfumes, cleaning products, jewellery, petrochemicals, and furniture.
The campaign, instrumental in fostering societal awareness, highlights the superior quality and adherence to standard specifications that make Omani products competitive in both domestic and global markets.
Supporting Omani producers and exporters through the patronage of local goods is a pivotal means of bolstering the national economy, according to MoCIIP. The campaign has garnered positive responses, attributing its success to the rigorous implementation of standard specifications, technical regulations, and best practices, safeguarding the national industry against unfair competition.
'Made in Oman' has not only succeeded in creating awareness but has also played a crucial role in establishing a strong national identity for Omani products. This, in turn, contributes to increased economic returns for the Sultanate and enhances global recognition of the quality of Omani products.
Mazin bin Humaid al Siyabi, the Assistant Director-General of Industry at the MoCIIP, affirmed that the campaign aligns seamlessly with the ministry's industrial strategy. It aims to create an investment-friendly climate, addressing challenges faced by existing industries and facilitating the establishment of new ones.
Imad bin Khamis al Shukaili, the Director General of the Directorate General of Standards and Metrology at the MoCIIP, underscored the role of specifications, standards, and technical regulations in protecting and promoting the national industry. He emphasized the importance of involving the private sector in the preparation of standard specifications and enforcing conformity procedures to shield national products from inferior competition.
The campaign's impact extends to the local level, with Hilal bin Badr al Rashidi, the Director of the Department of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion in Ad Dakhiliyah, highlighting the benefits realized in raising awareness among Omani factories. The campaign encourages obtaining the new national product identity logo, unifying marketing identity, and enhancing local value-added to products.
