BIDIYA: The branch of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate organises the desert tourism forum in the Wilayat of Bidiya in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate under the title ‘Oman Desert Tourism Forum’ with the participation of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism as well as a number of public and private institutions from January 24.

The event will be attended by a number of officials from the investment and tourism sectors, travel and tourism companies, desert reserves and owners of projects related to the desert winter season.

The tourism components of North Al Sharqiyah Governorate which include diversity of the terrain, natural beauty and tourist sites, attract a large number of local, regional and international tourists.

A lot of tourists flock to the governorate to enjoy its diverse atmosphere and tourist places as private sector institutions hold tourism forums that help develop tourism in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate.

Salah bin Salem al Hajri, Chairman of the Tourism Committee at the OCCI branch in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, explained that the forum will be implemented for the first time in the Sultanate of Oman and is considered of great importance as it sheds light on investment and economic activity in the desert tourism sector in the governorate.

The forum will discuss the laws regulating desert tourism, the investment opportunities available to local and international investors, the cultural and social dimension of desert tourism and the experiences of the GCC countries in this field.

Oman Desert Tourism Forum will highlight the tourism components, the cultural and historic heritage, the diversity of desert tourism experience that the Sultanate of Oman can offer and its importance as a tourist attraction for local and international tourists.

A number of initiatives will be announced in cooperation with other entities as well as specialised training courses in the field of tourism media, the official said.

Al Hajri added that preparations for the forum began early with many meetings held during which the topics that the forum would present were determined and the committees and teams that would be entrusted with the task of organising the forum were formed.

He noted that the forum will present working papers dealing with investment opportunities in desert tourism, the laws and legislations governing this sector and the social and cultural dimensions of desert tourism. — ONA
