MUSCAT: The Oman Centre for Traditional Music, which operates under the auspices of the Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science at the Diwan of the Royal Court, successfully concluded its activities for 2023 at its headquarters.


The closing programme featured a poetry session showcasing various facets of Omani singing.


Renowned poet Khamis bin Juma Al Muwaiti led the session with a collection of ‘Al Razha’ poems, while Hamoud bin Ali Al Rawahi presented verses in the art of ‘Al Masbaa.’ Abdullah bin Amer Al Ghunaimi shared his poetic mastery in ‘Al Razha’ and "Al Taghroud,’ and Mubarak bin Muslim Al Salti showcased a poetic collection in the genre of ‘Al Midan.’ Salim bin Mubarak Al Harithi contributed with poems in the art of ‘Al Tashahshah.’


The event also featured dialogue session on Omani traditional music, highlighted by two insightful papers.


Dr Abdullah bin Saeed Al Saeedi, a trainer at the Ministry of Education's training centre in the North Al Batinah Governorate, presented a comprehensive analysis of the book ‘Symbolic Languages in the North.’ The paper delved into various themes, exploring the influence of symbolic languages on traditional Omani poetic arts, their types, and their relationship to the broader traditional arts.


In the second paper, Nasser bin Mohammed Al Naabi, Director, Oman Centre for Traditional Music, addressed the challenges and solutions in Omani traditional musical styles.


The director of the Oman Centre for Traditional Music expressed gratitude and recognition to the participating poets and researchers.


The event was attended by invitees and enthusiasts of Omani traditional musical arts. - ONA
