'Share Change with Us' competition crowns youth innovators

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth announced the winners of the 'Share Change with Us' competition during the closing ceremony held at the Youth Centre under the patronage of Eng Said bin Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.


The project 'Model Sports School' secured first place, focusing on managing sports facilities and spaces in schools through accredited and licenced institutions in the sports sector.


In second place was the 'Ruwaad' project, a specialised training centre aimed at promoting physical activity in after-school programmes in government schools in Oman.

The third place honoured the 'Wheels' project, which involves the creation of a roller skiing track in Oman, providing a safe and enjoyable environment for individuals of all ages to engage in this fantastic sport.


In fourth was the 'Tracj 40.3' project, aiming to develop pathways for cycling and running with varying lengths ranging from 1 to 10 kilometres. The fifth spot went to 'Smart Space for Sports Life' project, an interactive sports walkway that interacts with users and features artificial intelligence technologies, ready to host various local and global sports events, including community and institutional categories.

Adil al Balushi, who topped the winner slot in the competition, expressed his happiness at the selection of his project idea. The project revolves around managing sports facilities and open spaces in educational institutions, organising diverse sports and physical programmes for various age groups, in addition to providing sports events for the families residing in the project's vicinity.


Al Balushi explained that the project aims to contribute to reducing the spread of non-communicable and modern diseases such as obesity, physical inactivity, diabetes, and high BP, by providing sports environment that encourages a healthy lifestyle. He added that competitions like these are of great importance, as the youth sector has diverse ideas that, if implemented bring about significant changes in health and sports aspects.


The head of the competition supervisory committee, Ibrahim bin Khalfan al Shibli, in his speech said the ministry's commitment to directing the Omani sports strategy towards achieving 'Oman Vision 2040' under the axis of 'Sports and Society.' He affirmed that this vision aims to enhance the community's culture and awareness of the importance of physical activity.

In this context, Al Shibli pointed out that investing in sports projects and expanding opportunities for active participation in building the community are essential pillars towards achieving sustainable development plans and enhancing genuine partnerships with various segments of society. This is to achieve the desired goal of 'Share Change with Us' competition.


Al Shibli added that the ministry launched the sports projects competition in its first edition. To achieve several objectives, including establishing a healthy lifestyle for the community members and promoting physical activity as a permanent lifestyle rather than a temporary practice.


He emphasised the success of the competition in achieving these goals, with over 180 diverse projects submitted in the construction, technology, and guidance programmes.
