Enthusiastic about the diverse world of engines, Wael bin Salem al Yaqoubi, a mechanical graduate with a specialisation in security and aircraft safety, owns a modest workshop equipped with used tools.

Wael currently serves as an equipment mechanic at CCD Company in the oil and gas sector, but his heart lies in his fervent love for motorcycles. Since 2003, he has steadily progressed in the field, evolving his driving skills each year.

His journey in mechanics and design began in childhood, as he worked on cars and motorcycles, honing his skills and passion.

In 2016, fueled by a desire to explore the world, Wael transitioned from bike mechanics to becoming a motorcycle traveller. His inaugural trip in 2017, spanning 2,500 kilometres in Dhofar Governorate, marked the beginning of a transformative journey.

Devoted to discovering countries, understanding diverse cultures and sharing the traditions of Oman, Wael embarked on a 6,000-kilometre journey through Gulf Cooperation Council countries in 2018. This was followed by multiple trips to enhance his leadership and physical abilities.

Wael’s primary long-distance travel companion is a Japanese-made Honda Africa Twin, renowned for its resilience. Additionally, he rides an American-made Victory motorcycle with numerous modifications.

In 2019, Wael initiated his second international trip, covering 1,200 kilometres through eight African countries. His ultimate goal was the southern part of the continent, but the global Covid-19 crisis in 2020 forced a postponement.

Undeterred, Wael set out on his third international trip to the European Union in July 2021, successfully reaching the North Cape in Norway in 2022. This challenging journey spanned 25,000 kilometres across 18 European countries.

In December 2022, he explored Saudi Arabia, covering 12,000 kilometres near the borders of Egypt and Jordan. A new travel pattern emerged in August this year as Wael traversed Turkiye from east to west and south to north, covering 10,000 kilometres.

November 2023 saw him venturing into the Republic of Iraq, covering 7,000 kilometres and marking his 50th visited country. Despite recent challenges, Wael was moved by the warmth and hospitality of the Iraqi citizens.

Intending to visit 100 countries across all continents, Wael remains committed to leaving an indelible mark, representing the Sultanate of Oman proudly. His total travel distance in 2017 surpassed 200,000 kilometres, with 80,000 kms dedicated to international trips across Europe, Asia and Africa.

His plans for 2024 include North Africa through the Gulf countries, and parts of Europe, with a unique sea journey from Spain to Tunisia. Active on social media platforms as @WaelAlyaqoubi, Wael’s journey continues to inspire and connect people globally.
