Singapore - The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Singapore agreed to enhance cooperation in economic development in several fields, including developing connections between emerging companies and SMEs with global markets.


This came in a joint statement between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Singapore on the occasion of the visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to the Republic of Singapore in response to an invitation from President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President of the Republic of Singapore.


During the visit (December 13-15), His Majesty the Sultan was accompanied by a high-level delegation and it represented an important shift in the established Omani-Singaporean relations based on friendship and cooperation.


During the visit, His Majesty the Sultan met with President Tharman Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and the multifaceted partnership between the two countries was discussed apart from regional and international issues, and stressed the common commitment to progress and stability.


Both sides in their discussions ways to concretely strengthen bilateral relations and approved the importance of technology in enhancing the economy and innovation, including developments in the field of Artificial intelligence and information systems.


The two countries agreed to enhance trade and economic cooperation in several areas, such as fish farming, food security, transportation, and logistics and developing connectivity between startups and Small and Medium-sized companies with global markets.


They stressed the importance of cooperation to develop and diversify intra-regional trade to benefit from the Free Trade agreement between the GCC And Singapore (GSFTA) in the development of education, healthcare, tourism, aquaculture, blue economy, and management Water and Technology sectors.


Both sides confirmed the importance of the transition to a green economy and agreed to discuss cooperation in initiatives to enhance renewable energy sources, low-carbon hydrogen, and decarbonization, emphasizing their shared commitment to environmental sustainability and combating climate change.


They confirmed the desire to resolve regional and international disputes peacefully by inviting the Sultanate of Oman and Singapore to dialogue and negotiations, which is committed to international law and the global order built on norms to promote justice, freedom, and human dignity without bias.


Sultanate Oman and Singapore expressed their strong commitment to promoting tolerance and peaceful coexistence and rejected all forms of extremism and a commitment to supporting a safer and more inclusive world that respects and promotes diversity between different cultures and societies.


The visit led to the signing of two memorandums of understanding in the fields of culture and youth between the Ministry of Culture Sports and Youth in the Sultanate of Oman and the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth of Singapore, and in the field of economic development between the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Investment Promotion and the Singapore Cooperation Corporation. These two memorandums will encourage greater communication between the peoples of the two countries and the strengthening of bilateral relations.


The two countries will attend the second meeting of the Omani-Singapore strategic dialogue scheduled to be held In the Sultanate of Oman at an appropriate.


His Majesty the Sultan expressed his sincere thanks for the hospitality he received in Singapore and extended an invitation to visit the Sultanate of Oman to President Tharman and Prime Minister Lee, reflecting the strong ties and close partnership.
