MUSCAT: The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) launched the second stage of the franchising programme yesterday, Sunday 10, under the auspices of the Minister of Finance, Sultan bin Salem al Habsi.

Chairman of the Chamber, Faisal bin Abduallah al Rawas, highlighted the importance of franchising in an earlier statement, “Franchising is a vital tool for achieving excellence in the business market by developing and enhancing local brands and quality exports. Therefore, it is essential to invest efforts in focusing on operations, employing innovation and development to meet market needs and consumer expectations.” Al Rawas also highlighted the importance of franchising in enhancing competitiveness and attracting investors, “This enhances competitiveness, attracts more investors and customers. Franchising is crucial for ensuring complete protection of intellectual property and trademarks. Its promotion contributes to achieving national goals and elevating the economic landscape. Moreover, it increases the chances of success for companies, improving their overall performance.” Speaking at the ceremony, Eng Hamoud bin Salem al Saadi, Head of the Commercial Franchise Programme initiative, and Second Vice Chairman of the Chamber's Board of Directors, shared that the programme aims to create Omani franchises that expand both locally and globally.

According to Al Saadi, six businesses out of 311 qualified for the second stage of the programme, which will entail further specialized support to assist these businesses in establishing franchising frameworks.

Furthermore, he shared that the programme, which was launched in February of this year, aims to fulfil the Chamber’s primary goals of enhancing economic diversification, fostering partnerships for the economic development of the provinces, and improving the business environment in the Sultanate.

According to Chamber officials, the programme will allocate annual budget to support the key components of the programme like brand marketing, participation in exhibitions and providing specialized information and consultations.
