Salalah Club secured the top position for the third consecutive year, followed by Al Seeb Club in the second position, and Masirah Club in the third position in the 24th edition of His Majesty Sultan's Youth Cup for the sports season 2021/2022. The crowning ceremony was held on Sunday under the auspices of His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Harrasi, the Minister of Information.
Bassel bin Ahmed Al Rawas, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth for Sports and Youth, stated in the ministry's speech that the competition is a true translation of the continuous and high-level interest in youth by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq. The goal is to motivate the clubs to continue working towards improving the level of their various activities to become incubators for youth and more responsive to their aspirations.
Al Rawas added that the annual ceremony provides an opportunity to focus on the achievements of the clubs and the efforts of their administrative councils in voluntary work in service to the nation and raising its flag in various external competitions.
Al Rawas explained that the competition evaluates the sports, cultural, and youth activities carried out by the clubs in local and external competitions during the past year. It also assesses the administrative and financial aspects of the clubs throughout the year, selecting the top ten clubs to win the competition. The club securing the first position is honored with His Majesty Sultan's Grand Youth Cup.
Al Rawas pointed out that the current edition of the competition witnessed the participation of 42 clubs, and it demonstrated outstanding performance by several clubs that qualified to be among the top ten.
“Since the competition's inception in 1998, the ministry has been developing evaluation criteria to meet the needs of each stage and align the competition's goals with the ministry's plans and the upcoming Omani sports strategy in line with Vision Oman 2040. The evaluation criteria will focus on four main pillars: sports, cultural, and youth activities; economy and development; sports organizations' governance; and sustainable environment,” Al Rawas added.
Al Rawas stated that the supervisory team for next year's competition will visit sports clubs to explain the competition's structure, evaluation criteria, the nature of activities, and competitions. The hope is to implement the new standards in future competition editions.
