IBRA: The General Directorate of Health Services in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, represented by the Department of Pharmaceutical Care and Medical Warehouses, hosted the 2023 Scientific Forum for Pharmacists in North Al Sharqiyah.

The event targeted over 80 pharmacists, their assistants, and medical and paramedical professionals from both government and private health institutions in the governorate. The forum took place at the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry headquarters in the Wilayat of Ibra.

Saif bin Sultan al Balushi, Director, Department of Pharmaceutical Care and Medical Warehouses, emphasised that the forum aimed to spotlight the pharmacist's crucial role in delivering comprehensive pharmaceutical care.

It sought to elevate the quality of health services provided to patients in health institutions while highlighting the pharmacist's collaborative role with other medical staff.

Additionally, the forum underscored the pharmacist's contribution to offering reliable health information, pharmaceutical consultations, ensuring safe and effective medication use, and emphasising the human aspect of the pharmacy profession in patient healthcare.

With eight scientific working papers, the forum delved into key developments and pharmaceutical practices in health institutions within the governorate, as well as advancements in pharmaceutical sciences.

The presented papers covered topics such as the high blood pressure crisis, proper administration and monitoring of 'Vancomycin' doses, leukaemia and lymphoma, fluid management in acidosis, diabetic ketosis in children, patient safety, the pharmacist's role in alleviating anxiety, community pharmacy responsibilities, basics of stock management in medical supplies, and the use of sign language in providing pharmaceutical advice to patients.

Dr Ahmed bin Said al Saeedi, Director-General of Health Services in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, graced the forum and honoured the presenters of working papers, participants, and contributors to the event's success.

He inaugurated the accompanying exhibition, featuring the pharmacy departments in health centres and the performance indicators of pharmaceutical care and medical warehouses in North Al Sharqiyah for 2023.

The Ministry of Health is actively pursuing a strategy to enhance pharmaceutical performance by addressing current and future challenges facing the pharmacy profession.

This initiative aims to keep pace with rapid developments in professional practices and uphold quality standards, aligning pharmaceutical work with the pharmacist's pivotal role that intersects with the responsibilities of the medical staff in health institutions. - ONA
