MUSCAT: The first session of the Arab Innovative Youth Camp kicked off on Sunday at the Avani Hotel under the theme ‘Innovation Towards a Better and More Sustainable Future.’
The camp will see about 47 young men and women between the ages of 18 and 24 from 21 Arab countries participating in the event. They are presenting their innovative and entrepreneurial projects that serve local communities and achieve sustainable development goals in areas such as the environment, agriculture, food, as well as health, education, knowledge transfer, and green and purple economies.
The camp is organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and the Ministry of Education, represented by the Omani National Committee for Education, Culture, and Science, in collaboration with the Arab Organization for Education, Culture, and Science (ALECSO). The opening ceremony was sponsored by Dr Muzaher bin Hilal al Busaidy, Deputy Head of the Follow-up Unit for the Implementation of Oman Vision 2040, in the presence of Basil bin Ahmed al Rawas, Under-Secretary, and Dr Mohammed Sannad Abu Droush, Director of the Science and Research Management at ALECSO.
The camp which concludes tomorrow, December 5, aims to foster innovation spirit and exchange experiences among Arab innovators, generating new ideas related to sustainable development goals. The camp also aims to familiarise participants with global innovation indicators and country rankings in this field.
It also seeks to connect Arab youth with industrial, innovative, and productive sectors capable of adopting and supporting innovative projects, providing them with opportunities to showcase their ideas, exchange experiences, and receive training in teamwork. It also focuses on developing their critical and creative thinking and enhancing their ability to find innovative solutions to problems and face challenges.
Hilal bin Saif al Siyabi, General Coordinator of the General Directorate for Youth, in his speech highlighted Oman’s interest, through its various institutions, in talents and innovators, noting Oman’s advancement by ten ranks to secure the 69th position globally
