Prosthodontist showcases work at Kuwait conference

Muscat: Omani Prosthodontist Dr Abdullah al Ajmi, a specialist in the use of Zirconia in dental restorative treatments, represented the Sultanate of Oman at the 23rd Kuwait Dental Conference (KDC), which was held in Kuwait last week.


Dr Al Ajmi whose extensive academic credentials include qualifications in MClinDent Prosthodontics and an RCSEd Membership in Prosthodontics, is a distinctive voice in the realm of Zirconia-based treatments.


The focal point of his presentation on the topic, ‘Zirconia in Dentistry — An Update to the Current Knowledge,’ underscored the rising prominence of dental zirconia, attributing its popularity to unparalleled mechanical properties and biocompatibility.


He expounded on the transformative impact of zirconia in restorative procedures, particularly emphasising its clinical success.


In attendance at the 23rd KDC were a diverse spectrum of dental professionals, including specialists, general dentists, dental assistants, and dental technicians.


Drawing on his experiences in the dental field in Oman, Dr Al Ajmi reviewed the current knowledge surrounding dental zirconia, offering a comprehensive overview that resonated with the global audience.


From microstructure intricacies to the development and preparation design requirements of dental zirconia, his exploration extended to optical and physical properties, indications for use, cementation protocols, and polishing protocols. He also shared insights into multiple advanced prosthodontic cases, featuring both implant-supported and tooth-supported zirconia prostheses.


The Kuwait Dental Conference not only served as a platform for global intellectual exchange but also showcased the excellence of Omani professionals.
