MUSCAT: The Social Protection Fund, in collaboration with the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), has announced the inaugural edition of the Gulf Research Award for Civil Retirement and Social Insurance Systems 2023.
The award focuses on research related to the social protection system, civil retirement, and social insurance. It aims to uncover key challenges faced by civil retirement and social insurance systems in the GCC, providing solutions in line with various variables. The goal is to contribute to enhancing retirement and social insurance awareness using the latest research methods. It also aims to establish research platforms that nurture Gulf scientific talents by addressing relevant areas related to retirement and social insurance, aligning with contemporary social, demographic, economic, and political changes in the Arabian Gulf region.
The award aims to support scientific research in social protection areas, offering a platform for researchers across GCC countries to study contemporary issues related to social protection systems. It encourages researchers and those interested in research fields to continue their initiatives, enriching knowledge related to civil retirement and social insurance in the Gulf. The outcomes of the research are expected to contribute as inputs to the strategic plans of various civil retirement bodies and social insurance institutions.
Covering various fields such as actuarial sciences, investments in civil retirement systems, social insurance laws, the economic risks and the role of civil retirement and social insurance systems in economic development, the quality and development of insurance services, strategic planning support for civil retirement and social insurance systems, and the use of technology and artificial intelligence in the evolution of these systems, the award targets researchers with doctoral and master's degrees, as well as undergraduate students from GCC countries and resident foreigners.
The award process includes a two-month period for submitting research proposals, followed by an announcement of qualified research proposals for study preparation. Subsequently, a period of no more than nine months is allocated for the submission of comprehensive research. The results of the winning research will be announced in the first quarter of 2025.
This award serves as a crucial contributor to the development of civil retirement and social insurance systems in the region. It encourages researchers and specialists from GCC member countries to conduct valuable research in this field, aiming to foster interaction among member states.
