MUSCAT: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP), in collaboration with the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) and the Joint Committee for External Exhibitions of Omani Products (OPEX), launched the "Made in Oman" campaign on November 29, 2023. This significant initiative aims to promote and empower national products and industries, fostering a sense of pride and confidence in Omani-made goods.
The launch event, attended by distinguished figures including Qais bin Mohammed al Yousuf, Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, marked the commencement of a series of activities under the "Made in Oman" campaign. One of the key highlights was the unveiling of the logo for the Omani Quality Mark, a symbol of adherence to high standards and quality in Omani products.
In conjunction with the campaign, a dedicated corner for Omani products was inaugurated at Al Mouj Muscat, providing a platform for local businesses to showcase their offerings. This corner, operational until December 8, serves as a focal point for consumers to explore and appreciate the diversity and quality of Omani industries.
The "Made in Oman" campaign is not limited to Muscat; it encompasses various activities across different governorates of the Sultanate of Oman. These activities include the opening of corners for Omani products in commercial centers, purposeful design displays promoting national industries in selected locations, and organized visits for students to Omani factories in different governorates.
Zahrah bint Ali al Siyabi, Head of the Industrial Development Department at MoCIIP, emphasized the campaign's strategic importance in enhancing the efficiency and competitiveness of the industrial sector. The Industrial Strategy 2040 forms the backdrop for this initiative, with a keen focus on developing and supporting national industries, encouraging them to explore new markets both locally and internationally.
The campaign has several objectives, including introducing and promoting national products in the local market, instilling confidence in local consumers, highlighting the quality and competitiveness of Omani products, and creating a distinctive image of the diverse Omani industries. Establishing communication channels between producers and consumers, promoting the national product identity logo, and encouraging industrial establishments to obtain the logo license are also integral parts of the campaign.
A component of the "Made in Oman" campaign is the Omani Quality Mark. Layla bint Salem bin Ali al Maashariya, Head of the Quality Conformity Development Department at the Directorate General for Specifications and Measurements, provided insights into the mark's significance. Functioning as a conformity assessment system, the Omani Quality Mark signifies compliance with standard specifications or technical regulations, assuring consumers of product quality.
Ali bin Issa Al Rashidi, OCCI representative, underscores the Chamber's role as a government partner, supporting Omani products from inception through manufacturing, promotion, sales, and after-sales service. Actively fostering local projects, SMEs, and large factories, the Chamber is committed to expanding markets and contributing to Omani product growth in both local and regional Gulf markets.
As part of the campaign, an exhibition showcasing Omani products was inaugurated at Al Mouj Muscat by Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef. The exhibition serves to introduce Omani products to consumers, building confidence in local goods by highlighting their quality and diversity. It also encourages the support of Omani products to bolster the national economy.
The exhibition comprises three sections: an informative section providing details about Omani products, an interactive section raising public awareness through games and competitions, and a dialogue sessions section hosting local industrial institutions to share success stories and inspire entrepreneurs.
