Muscat: Salalah Club’s Mazin al Riyami stormed from behind of the standings to grab the red jersey after winning the third race of Oman Cycling Association (OCA) League 2023 at Al Sawadi in Barka on Friday.
Mazin came home in two hours 41 minutes to edge out Oman Royal Army’s Husam al Rawahi and Cycle KOM-NRO’s Daniel Baldwin who both finished in second and third respectively with the same time in the 110 km road race.
Oman Club’s Mohammed al Zeidi (2:41:38) and Hamed al Mahrouqi (2:41:38) took the fourth and fifth spots respectively in the race contested by 62 riders.
In overall standings, Mazin emerged on top with 200 points, overtaking Mohammed al Wahibi of Cycle KOM, the leader of the first two races, with 180 points. Oman Royal Army’s Said al Rahbi is third with 170 points.
Oman Royal Army cyclists Husam al Rawahi (150 points) and Mohammed al Shandoudi (145) are in the fourth and fifth positions respectively.
Mohammed al Wahibi kept his white jersey after topping the under-23 category. Salalah Club’s Mundher al Hasani (135) is second and Oman Club’s Islam Ayad (120) is third in the standings after the first three races.
Asad al Habsi (58) of Al Ettifaq Club and Waleed al Fahdi (49) of Bahla Club are in fourth and fifth spots.
BALDWIN WINS GREEN JERSEY
In the 40 plus category, Cycle KOM’s Daniel Baldwin (101 points) edged out his team captain Paul Willcox (74) to take the green jersey.
Bahla Club’s Saud al Mandhari (56) is third ahead of teammate Mohammed al Kindi (41) and Karl Buchholtz of Cycle KOM (28) who complete the top five in the 40 plus standings.
In team standings, Oman Royal Army (715 points) powered ahead of Salalah Club (665) with Cycle KOM (651) close behind in third. Oman Club are fourth on 447 points and Wave Riders are fifth on 312 points among the 15 teams in fray.
The fourth race of the OCA League will be a 116 km road race in Qurayat on December 8.
