MUSCAT: As many as 100 boys and girl students took part in the two days selection festivals of badminton.
The first day was organised specifically for the female students on October 30 at Al Amal club in Muscat. While the male students selection took place on November 5 at AMM Arena in Ghala.
The selection festival was organised by Oman Racket Sports Committee (ORSC) in order to discover the most talented junior badminton players to create the national teams. The ORSC board directors set a top strategy by focusing on the junior players to make a strong foundation for establishing the national teams in the near future.
The two days festival featured several activities where the students competed with passion and enthusiasm, trying to demonstrate their distinctive skills and abilities in this sport that requires speed and precision. The committee appointed many coaches and trainers to supervise the performance of the participants in the events.
During the selection festivals, the participated players went under clear training sessions to evaluate their skills in addition to that a mini tournament was organised in a systematic and effective manner to enrich the students’ experience and increase the level of competitiveness among them.
Ammar al Hammadi, organising member at the Badminton Players Selection Festival, stated that the event was an ideal opportunity to discover young talented players. “The festival constituted an ideal occasion to enhance the spirit of competition and interaction among the students. With this event, ORSC reinforces the importance of supporting young talents and encouraging them to practice badminton,” he said
Al Hammadi wished the selection festival would be held in more than one governorate.
Ruqaya bint Nasser al Omairiyah, Board member of ORSC, said that the committee pays great attention to developing junior students and build up their technical skills and abilities.
“This is an initial step to establish a strong national team in the future. We will provide a proper environment for our future players to grow professionally. We are focused in the beginning at Al Seeb and Bausher schools and group of students have been selected.”
