The weather has been swerving for the past days with rains and thundershowers across the country leading to dwindling temperatures along with the winter ready to set in.
So, staying vigilant in this regard is better than bearing the brunt and paying off with your health later.
Without further ado, here is a quick rundown of your dos and don’ts during this weather switching:
As a consequence of flash floods and water stagnation in residential areas, hot spots for mosquitoes and fleas breeding are promptly ready, which eventually becomes a precursor to various diseases.
Check for any stagnating water around your homes in pots or containers as well as in the vicinity; if possible, drain it off or spray a thin oil spray to discourage insect growth.
Even so, the rains have plummeted; avoid leisurely sitting in the grassy and open spaces to avoid getting bitten by mosquitoes, bugs, or worms.
When it comes to food, wash your fruits and veggies thoroughly, and steam cooking your veggies before consuming is always better.
Rainy weather triggers the disease spreading microscopic organisms to take shelter in the vegetables.
Moreover, the temperature variations combined with rain showers weakens the immune system and thus invites the respiratory bacteria and flu-causing viruses to attack leading to an array of symptoms like fever, cough, congestion, nasal allergies sneezing, etc.
It is preferable to sip ginger, turmeric, and basil teas as they are evidently known for their antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
And yes, it’s a wise pick to increase your intake of vitamin C through natural food sources like lemon, oranges, or grapefruit; or popping your pill, whatever suits you.
Vitamin C provides an extra shield to your immunity levels.
Then on, coming to your gut; it also needs a little extra care; so be easy on it by avoiding spicy and deep-fried foodstuffs.
Eat light and grilled with good portions of fruits and veggies (cucumbers, mint, green coriander, tomatoes, lettuce, apples, colored bell peppers) along with a decent mix of seeds and nuts.
Following this, however tempting it might feel getting drenched in these rains or in the flowing waters is not a cool hangout.
Even so, if it gets unavoidable, do take a shower; as flowing waters harbour various forms of ticks, mites, and other dangerous disease carriers.
And the last scoop, do not forget to keep your homes ventilated and dehumidified to discourage mold growth.
You won’t regret keeping them disinfected and fragrant with the Dhofar staple frankincense!
