Many wilayats in the northern governorates received rain on Sunday as part of the air trough that is expected to have an impact on Oman starting from Sunday till Thursday.
The trough due to low pressure system that has been developed in southern part of Iran has been having its impact on the Sultanate of Oman and the United Arab Emirates, said the weather forecaster at Oman Met Office.
“Some of the wilayats like Saham, Suhar and Liwa experienced hailstorms. We are expecting clouds and isolated rain over the wilayats of Al Suwaiq, Samayil, Al Musannah and some parts of Muscat,” said the weather forecaster.
A weather alert was issued on Sunday due to heavy thunderstorms accompanied by strong downdraft wind with hailstorms for the governorates of Al Batinah North, Al Batinah South, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah and Al Sharqiyah North. The heaviest rainfall is expected over Al Hajar Mountains.
Parts of the mountainous areas in Al Rustaq, Al Awabi, Nakhal and Bidbid also received rains, with chances of thunderclouds extending towards Al Khabourah, Al Suwaiq and Al Musannah.
“In Muscat Governorate rains might not be just in Qurayat and Al Amerat, but Muscat city itself might experience rain on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday,” pointed out the weather forecaster.
