Thrill-seekers and culture enthusiasts will have plenty of opportunity to enjoy this year’s edition of the Al Din Festival and with a collaborative partnership with Oman Automobile Association, they promise an adrenaline-packed ride on top of other exceptional experiences.
This year’s festival theme is ‘Gathering the World in Oman” with the main intent of bridging theatres from across the Arab world.
But beyond art, the Al Din organisers wanted to send the message that they also promote vibrant cultural tapestry, thus the inclusion of drifting performances which will electrify the celebration even more with a display of speed, skill and global unity.
Taha Ali al Mosawi from the Republic of Iraq shared his experience while watching a drifting show, expressing his amazement at the spectacle. He described it as incredibly impressive despite his fear of speed, which prevented him from participating in the event.
“Actually, what we saw was something very nice. I’ve seen performances like this before but only on television and YouTube channels, and this was the first time I had seen drifting up close,” he shared.
Taha added that he particularly admired the skill of the Omani young men who drove with such daring and talent, wishing he could join them if not for his phobia.
Adil al Darwish, hailing from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, served as a volunteer organiser in the previous three editions of the event.
In this current edition, he eagerly embraced the chance to be part of the international festival as a participant.
“As I sat in the car and the experiment began, I felt a mix of nervousness and excitement. I was astounded by the driver’s confidence as they executed these slightly nerve-wracking manoeuvres. This was my first time, and I was thoroughly captivated. I hope for more experiences like this in the future. I am grateful to the organisers for granting us the opportunity to participate in this experiment,” he said.
The festival’s chairman, Mohammed al Nabhani, expressed, “The drifting sports event was intended to blend theatrical and sporting elements, thanks to the collaboration between Al Din Theater Troupe and the Omani Automobile Association. It aimed to bridge the gap between theater and athletics, which has been partially achieved. With more time and space in our schedual, we could have further enhanced this integration and repeated it throughout the festival days.”
The festival management pledges to transform this event into a magnificent artistic spectacle and a grand communal celebration. Designed to showcase the rich cultural, artistic, and sporting heritage of Oman, the festival serves as a unique platform to introduce our nation and its diverse cultural facets, as well as our vibrant youth activities.
