Muscat: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) has revealed the partial collapse due to rains of one of the towers of Rustaq Castle, which has been undergoing restoration and maintenance work.
The Ministry confirmed through its social media platform that restoration and maintenance work is continuing in accordance with established practices.
It is worth noting that the Ministry has been carrying out maintenance work since 2021 and the scope of the work includes the restoration of the damaged areas, such as cracks in the external and internal walls, ceilings, floors, and electrical works.
The Rustaq Castle maintenance project comes within the framework of the efforts made by the ministry to preserve archaeological and historical monuments in the various governorates.
Rustaq Castle is located on the slopes of a mountain in the South Al Batinah Governorate. The castle consists of two main floors in addition to the ground floor, featuring residences, weapon storage rooms, reception rooms, gates, a mosque, prisons, wells, and other facilities.
There are towers that were constructed in the years 1477 and 1906. The first one is the Red Tower, which stands at a height of over 16 meters and has a diameter of nine and a half meters.
The second tower is the Wind Tower built at a height of 12 meters and has a diameter of 12 meters.
