MUSCAT: The International Tent Pegging Federation (ITPF), which is based in Muscat, marked their decade celebration since the formation of the federation on October 27, 2013 in Sultanate of Oman. The function took place in Muscat on Monday night in presence of many ITPF officials representing different parts of the world besides other officials and equestrian lovers in Oman.
The 10 years of ITPF have been marked by series of achievements that contributed on spreading of this sport in various continents. The ITPF began with 19 members and after continuous growth, the number of members increased in 2023 to 46 representing different continents.
Anees bin Mohammed al Mamari, Vice-Chairman of ITPF for Technical Affairs, said: ”We are pleased to meet in this occasion which is inline to the International Tent Pegging Day which falls on October 27 every year and celebrating a decade since the establishment of ITPF with its official headquarters in the Sultanate of Oman. We appreciate the efforts taken by the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, towards supporting the sports.”
“The success of ITPF came after hard work from the board of directors with the support from the general assembly members and all its supporting committees. The ITPF sought to spread this sport through the series of tournaments and events organised by the federation that help the sport to take a great position practiced by various categories of the society,” he said.
“The federation organised four World ITPF Championships. The Sultanate of Oman had hosted the first tournament in 2014 while Egypt had organised the following edition tournament in 2016 and the United Arab Emirates had conducted the third tournament in 2018. South Africa had hosted the fourth edition of the tournament earlier this year,” the vice-chairman pointed out.
“The federation supervised many special tournaments including the first International Beach Championship for Tent Pegging , which was held in Masirah in 2017, the women’s tournament in Khasab in 2018 and the first international championship for traditional sports clothing which was held in Duqm in 2021. Besides that many other specific international tournaments have been hosted namely the first military championship for tent pegging which was held in Jordan,” he concluded.
Later, the ITPF officials signed many agreements with the different federations including Asian Tent Pegging Federation, Russian Tent Pegging Federation, who are members of the general assembly. The purpose of the agreements is to enhance the development of the sport and exchange experiences.
