As weather depressions deepen, they give rise to natural disasters such as heavy rains, floods, and surging waves. People in the area must prepare for challenges and raise community awareness about navigating these climatic conditions, paying special attention to precipitation levels.

Authorities have been cautioning against tropical storm Tej in Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates based on weather reports signaling their readiness and pre-emptive measures.

Given the evolving situation with tropical cyclone ‘Tej’, it is imperative that people in affected areas adhere to protective guidelines and instructions when rainfall occurs.

The Sultanate of Oman is no stranger to tropical weather systems, primarily occurring between May and June and another in September and October. When such weather events loom, it is essential to follow specific protective guidelines and instructions, some of which have been shared by the Dhofar Municipality: Stay informed by monitoring weather bulletins and heeding alerts or warnings from the National Center for Early Warning of Multiple Hazards regarding the possibility of heavy and torrential rains.

If you are responsible for livestock, avoid positioning them near valley bottoms, edges, or dams during inclement weather.

While traveling, refrain from stopping your vehicle in low-lying areas or deep valleys.

When near mountains or mountainous roads, take precautionary measures as rocks may fall, or the road may collapse.

Abide by the recommended safe paths and methods outlined by relevant authorities and avoid taking unnecessary risks.

Stay safe from lighting poles and electricity complexes during heavy rainfall and rising water levels.

The Dhofar Municipality has activated its emergency committee to coordinate preparations, monitor the situation’s developments, oversee the actions taken by response teams, and implement a comprehensive plan to ensure the smooth flow of water in valleys. They also have the necessary devices, water drainage pumps, and equipment to tackle any contingencies.

Living with such climatic phenomena has become part of life for the citizens and residents of Oman. They have learned to deal with the potential damage caused by these conditions with wisdom, patience, and responsibility, aided by the tireless efforts of responsible authorities.
