The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) is diligently monitoring the stability of prices for goods and services during tropical situations in the Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates.
The CPA underscores this commitment, emphasizing that a tropical situation should not be used as a pretext to hike prices unjustly.
As the tropical situation develops into a tropical cyclone in the Arabian Sea, Azad bin Amer al Omari, Director of the Consumer Protection Department in Dhofar Governorate, is resolute about maintaining price stability within the Dhofar Governorate.
He emphasised the need for stringent control over markets and shops to identify violations swiftly. Al Omari stated, “We will also initiate legal measures against any offenders through our fieldwork teams stationed across the wilayats.” Consumer Protection Departments in Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates, along with their offices in the Wilayat of Mirbat, Thamrait, and Al Mazyouna, are unwavering in addressing the extraordinary tropical situation (Tej). They have devised a comprehensive action plan in collaboration with relevant authorities to oversee markets and shops and ensure the availability and stability of essential goods.
The Assistant Director of the Consumer Protection Department in Al Wusta Governorate, Haima, Haitham bin Ali al Junaibi, highlighted the ongoing commitment to serving consumers and monitoring markets, even during challenging situations.
Teams remain on high alert and work tirelessly to manage the evolving scenario. Inspectors maintain round-the-clock vigilance, conducting thorough market assessments, verifying the availability of essential items, and preventing price gouging. The teams also engage with consumers to receive their reports and actively communicate with commercial establishments to ensure the presence of basic goods.
The work is organised in two alternating shifts to comprehensively cover markets and commercial centres, ensuring the availability of consumer necessities and monitoring prices.
The goal is to enforce compliance with established regulations and prevent negative practices, especially those taking advantage of the Sultanate of Oman’s vulnerability to the tropical situation.
The CPA is committed to safeguarding the interests of consumers by providing a secure and fair consumer market under all circumstances.
The CPA unequivocally states that any market violations by suppliers will be addressed directly by the authority’s staff. Consumers are encouraged to cooperate by reporting any observed market violations or irregularities. Everyone is urged to prioritise the public interest, adhere to regulations and laws, and support the CPA’s mission to ensure a secure consumer market.
We will also initiate legal measures against any offenders through our fieldwork teams stationed across the wilayats
