MUSCAT: Dr Abdullah bin Nasser al Harrasi, Information Minister, convened a discussion on Monday with representatives from the Foreign Press Association (FPA) in the United Kingdom, who are on an official visit to the Sultanate of Oman.

Dr Al Harrasi elucidated the Ministry of Information’s pivotal role in enhancing the standards of Omani media to remain abreast with contemporary technical and professional global advancements.

Highlighting the instrumental role of media, both traditional and contemporary platforms, Dr Al Harrasi emphasised its significance in bolstering peace initiatives. He accentuated the duty of the press in accurately portraying facts, especially concerning humanitarian matters, and championing the rights of civilians to live a respectable and stable existence. He further asserted that press freedom ought to be exercised responsibly, impartially and in harmony with the core values of truth and justice.

Responding, the FPA delegation expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Information for the invitation to acquaint themselves with Oman’s natural and cultural richness and developmental journey across various sectors. They commended Oman’s blend of cultural heritage and modernity and praised the evolution and sophistication of Omani media.

Established approximately 130 years ago, the Foreign Press Association stands as a neutral entity, sustained by member contributions. With its rich history spanning over a century, the FPA has witnessed and chronicled countless pivotal events, making it one of the most venerable and respected journalist associations globally. - ONA
