MUSCAT: The Asian Confederation of Billiard Sports (ACBS) has officially acknowledged the Oman Open Billiards and Snooker Championship, incorporating it into the federation's activities. This recognition was conveyed through a formal communication received by the Oman Billiards and Snooker Committee (OBSC) from the Asian body, solidifying the championship's status within the ACBS for open championships.

Khalid bin Khalfan al Sabahi, OBSC Chairman, expressed immense satisfaction and appreciation for this significant milestone. He emphasised the paramount importance of the ACBS recognition, particularly following the resounding success of four editions of the Oman Billiards and Snooker Championship. The event witnessed the participation of professional players from Oman and neighbouring countries, thus

meriting its inclusion among the prestigious open Asian championships.

Al Sabahi highlighted the pivotal role of this recognition, symbolising unwavering support from the Asian body towards the committee. The ongoing inclusion of the championship within the ACBS' activities is seen as a crucial factor in empowering and honing the skills of players

in the Sultanate of Oman.

In a related development, the OBSC successfully concluded the qualifying championship to determine the representatives of the Oman billiards team for 2023. The chosen representatives are set to compete in the highly anticipated Arab Billiards and Snooker Championship scheduled to take place in Jordan from December 10 to 22. The championship victory was secured by Hassan al Mousawi, who showcased exceptional talent and determination by defeating Mohammed al Balushi with a score of 11-8.

The tournament, which unfolded at the renowned 888 Hall in the Al Maabilah area, witnessed participation from 35 talented players. Organised into eight groups of five players each, the tournament adopted a rigorous format where the top two players from each group advanced to the exhilarating round of 16. This knockout round determined the finalists and eventually the champions.

At the conclusion of the championship, Khaled bin Badr al Shabibi, OBSC member, presided over the awards ceremony. The young talent, Hassan

al Mousawi, clinched the first-place trophy, followed by Mohammed al Balushi in second place and Fahd al Muqbali securing the third place. Given the academic commitments of Al Mousawi, who claimed the top place, Mohammed al Balushi and Fahd al Muqbali were rightfully chosen

to represent the national team in forthcoming prestigious tournaments.
