Al Nahda close in on Seeb in OL

MUSCAT: Defending champions Al Nahda reduced the gap with league leaders Seeb to two points after their crucial win in the eighth week of Omantel League 2023-24. The Al Buraimi-based team registered a 3-1 win over Bahla at Nizwa Sports Complex on Sunday. Al Nahda raised their credit to 18 points and benefited from Seeb’s goalless draw against Sohar at the latter’s home in Sohar Sports Complex.


The eighth round of the top tier league recorded four victories, one goalless draw and another 2-2 draw. The round featured scoring of 15 goals.


Seeb remained on top with 20 points while the draw dropped the Southern Batinah team from second place to the fourth position with 15 points.


Oman Club jumped to second position after they showed top game and earned three points against Al Rustaq at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. The match ended with the lone goal scored by Oman Club’s Omar Shawqi in the 79th minute. The triumph took the Muscat-based team to second with 18 points while Al Rustaq stayed in their previous credit at seven points in ninth place.



The derby in Salalah ended in favour of Al Nasr as they defeated Salalah giants Dhofar 3-1 in a tough clash at Al Saada Stadium. Dhofar took lead with a header goal from Thani al Rushedi in the 30th minute. Al Nasr registered strong comeback in the match within five minutes as they equalised through Waleed al Musallami.


In the second half, Al Nasr began with more focus and they regained lead through the second goal netted by Abdullah Zahir in the 50th minute. AbdulMajeed Shamas confirmed the win for Al Nasr as he struck the third goal in the 64th minute. Al Nasr earned three points to reach nine points in the sixth place while Dhofar are struggling in 10th spot with seven points.


Ibri continued their top performance as they tasted third victory in the league after beating Al Wahda 2-0 at the Sur Sports Complex. The win took Ibri to nine points in eighth place while Al Wahda are placed in the danger zone at 11th place with four points only.


In another match, Sur and Al Shabab ended their match in a 2-2 draw in Sur Sports Complex. The forthcoming round will take place on October 27 and 28.
