MUSCAT: Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki al Faisal, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Sports and Chairman of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, affirmed that Saudi Arabia’s bid for hosting the 2034 Fifa World Cup got a huge support from all the Gulf, Arab and Asian countries.
“Definitely, the purpose of the bid for hosting world Cup in Saudi Arabia is to develop the football in the region and in Asian continent. We really appreciate all the efforts made by the Asian Football Confederation to support Saudi’s bid. I am thanking all the countries for their support. I am confident that everyone will benefit from the success of the Saudi bid. We are looking forward that the dreams of world-class tournament to happen soon by hosting this mega event of the World Cup in Saudi Arabia,” he added in his remarks to the reporters following the end of GCC NOCs Heads meeting in Muscat on Monday.
Commenting on Omani-Saudi collaboration in the sports field, Prince Abdulaziz al Faisal said: “There is continuous collaboration between Oman Olympic Committee and Saudi Olympic Committee. I appreciate the efforts and hard work made by the OOC towards the success of these GCC Olympic Committees meeting in Muscat. With regards to Omani-Saudi collaboration, there are joint programmes on developing the junior athletes, exchanging experience in improvement of the infrastructure and hosting the mega events. Both parties are working hard for the development of sports in the region and in their own countries,” he concluded.
Recently, Saudi Arabia have officially declared its intention to host 2034 Fifa World Cup following Fifa extended an invitation to the Asian and Oceania regions countries to submit their bids. Later, Saudi Arabia announced on their second step to bid for 2034 World Cup by submitting a letter of intent to host the event to world soccer governing body Fifa last week.
Saudi Arabia is the host of the Asian Cup football in 2027.
