MUSCAT: The Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher will come alive with basketball action as the 2023-24 Oman General League and Youth Basketball Championship kick off on Friday. The schedule, approved by the Oman Basketball Association through its Competition Committee, sets the stage for a thrilling season of basketball starting on October 13.
The General League, a premier basketball event, features seven prominent clubs: Al Seeb, Ahli Sidab, Oman Club, Nizwa, Al Bashayer, Salalah, and Dhofar. Simultaneously, the Youth League showcases six promising teams: Al Seeb, Nizwa, Ahli Sidab, Qurayat and Salalah.
Action-packed matches mark the beginning of the General League's first round October 13. The inaugural match at 6 pm sees Dhofar face off against Oman Club, followed by an exciting match at 8 pm between Al Bashayer and Nizwa, igniting the Derby of the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. The General League matches are played in a two-round league system, and teams from the first to the third place proceed to a single-round league to determine the first, second, and third positions.
The Youth Championship's first round kicks off on Friday at 4 pm, featuring a riveting match between Ahli Sidab and Salalah. The championships continue with matches on Saturday, October 14, between Salalah and Al Seeb, and on October 20, a match will be held between Nizwa and Qurayat, showcasing promising talent and fierce competition.
The Youth League matches are played in a two-round league system, and the top four teams qualify for the finals. The first-place team plays against the fourth-place team, and the second-place team plays against the third-place team. The winners of these matches advance to compete for the championship title.
