The Sarah Gallery at Bait al Zubair kicked off its new exhibition season with a touching tribute to the late artist, Muhammad Nidham, in collaboration with Oman Post. This remarkable exhibition coincided with World Postal Day, celebrated annually on October 9. The event serves as a remembrance of Muhammad Nidham, an exceptional Omani artist who not only had a profound passion for art but also made significant contributions as a postage stamp designer.
This exhibition will be open to the public throughout the month, allowing visitors to connect with the artistry and legacy of Muhammad Nidham, a truly remarkable Omani artist whose contributions continue to resonate in the hearts and minds of art enthusiasts and philatelists alike.
Muhammad bin Nidham Shah al Balushi's journey as a stamp designer spanned nearly three decades, from 1985 to 2014. Throughout this time, he played a pivotal role in documenting a transformative period in Oman's modern history, marked by the remarkable achievements of the Omani Renaissance under the leadership of the late Sultan Qaboos. The exhibition showcases a diverse collection of postage stamps that Muhammad Nidham designed himself or supervised, each telling a unique story of this era and its pivotal milestones.
In addition to the postage stamps, the exhibition also features a selection of artworks created by Muhammad Nidham. The earliest of these pieces date back to 1994. What makes Muhammad Nidham's art particularly special is his ability to infuse deep intellectual content into his works, addressing various facets of life, thoughts, and emotions. His artistic vision offers a nuanced language that invites viewers to interpret and connect with his creations in a deeply personal and individualised manner.
In acknowledgement of Muhammad Nidham's pioneering contributions to the world of art and to ensure the enduring legacy of his work, the Bait al Zubair Foundation has made a significant announcement. A dedicated space within the stamp hall in the main building, known as Bait al Bagh, will be permanently allocated to display a portrait of Muhammad Nidham alongside models of the postage stamps he designed. This move is a heartfelt tribute to the artist and a testament to the timeless nature of his artistic contributions.
The exhibition will also feature a seminar in fine arts, providing an opportunity to delve deeper into Muhammad Nidham's artistic journey. A dialogue session focused on the postage stamps he designed during his tenure as a postage stamp designer will further enhance the understanding of his remarkable body of work.
