Tackling changes...

Patience is a key factor in the path towards success in life. What is interesting is that we are often challenged to practice patience.

Patience is such a quality and virtue that it has to lead to success. But impatience comes so naturally to us with so much ease.

One road block for maintenance and we could not handle it. It was a trial for many and resulted in numerous accidents - this is about the Al Amerat road to Bowsher. Most of the motorists could not handle the stress of staying and waiting in slow traffic. They were easily exhausted and got worked up.

Slow driving is an art on its own. But here people were trying to reach on time for work and classrooms.

The problem was solved when the closed road was opened just for the morning sessions. People were calm once again.

The change impacted the mind. People’s expressions changed along with their attitude.

This is what it seems ‘changes’ do to us, however changes are inevitable. No matter how difficult it is, changes are what make us grow eventually. In fact we might love our comfort zone and rebel against any force that wants to push us out of there. Even in the shortest span we learn even while we process ourselves through complaining stages to accepting the situation. It is that time when we decide to adapt to the changes when the magic happens.

Our ego might tell us otherwise - nudging us to prompt, ‘you are giving in.’

It is not giving in, in actuality, our willingness to learn something new is going to provide us with the opportunity to embark on a new path and grow.

How can there be an end to learning as everyday there is some that is evolving - a new solution to an old problem, a new style to replace the old ways and the list goes on. We are quick to accept changes in trends and fashion, but when it comes to new ways of thinking and managing we find it hard to accept and adapt.

The fact remains that the ones who can accept change can survive. It may or may not be the case of survival of the fittest. From climate change to lifestyle after the pandemic, to work style - change is revolving around us. The policies have changed so has trading mechanisms. Our concept on savings has changed.

In the past we were groomed to secure a job and stick to it. A couple of decades the emphasis was on career path, and now it is about having a secured life that provides you with support of health and comfort especially in retirement. But today people make a career change at 50.

Talk to the teenagers of today and they will enlighten you on how to invest and make money grow. There are side hustles to be indulged in and endless means of educating oneself online. It is not just about qualification it seems it is now about knowing.

Life requires empathy as one of the tools for good leadership qualities. Senior psychiatrist, Dr Hamed al Sinawi explained that having empathy is putting oneself in the other person’s shoes. But you should also know when to come back to your own shoes. It is nevertheless, extremely significant for us to understand what the other person is going through.

If we sit down and reflect upon our life, it would be interesting to note that most of the time our sufferings are due to a wave of change that has come into our lives. As long as we keep resisting it we feel the pressure. When we choose to face it we are able to surf with it.

This is because with all other qualities we are also given resilience as part of our nature. For some, resilience is on the higher side while for others it could be yet not tested due to the zone of comfort. More you endure the higher the resilience.

On October 7, world celebrated the 'Day for Decent Work' declared by the United Nations, which stated, “Too often, having a job doesn't guarantee a person a life of dignity. Sustainable economic growth and decent work for all are key to achieving the #GlobalGoals.”

A world that is becoming volatile whether due to earthquakes, weather or war, it is important to expect many changes that are yet to appear in many countries, such as sustainability, economy, cost of living, health and education. On the other side of spectrum is Artificial intelligence and scientific and social development that would see changes to careers and life skills.

Change is inevitable. We have to learn to embrace it.
