Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, on Wednesday celebrated the World Tourism Day, which falls on September 27, every year.
To mark the day, Oman organized the second introductory meeting for travel and tourism offices and youth teams, with the prime aim of responding to security and safety requirements of adventure tourism activities.
The celebration was held under the auspices of Salim Mohammed al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism.
In the gathering held as part of Tourism Day celebrations, Oman laid emphasis on the enforcement of Ministerial Decision No (24/2021), which adds the activity of “organizing adventure tourism trips” to the duties of travel and tourism offices.
The mandate requires adventure tourism companies to abide by the security and safety measures quoted in the ministerial decision and keep the standards on top of their priorities.
The meeting saw the launch of electronic systems designed for receiving requests for adventure tourism activities and specialized guidance. It also included the launch of the insurance policy for adventure tourism activities, in cooperation with the Capital Market Authority.
World Tourism Day 2023 was celebrated under the theme of “Tourism and green investment” to highlight the need for more and better-oriented investments for the global Sustainable Development Goals and the UN roadmap for a better world by 2030.
