OQ symposium spotlights HSSE imperatives

MUSCAT: In a significant move towards enhancing workplace safety and environmental consciousness, OQ, a global integrated energy group, organized a symposium on Occupational Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) on Monday, September 25, 2023.


The event, presided over by Dr Hilal bin Ali al Sabti, Minister of Health, focused on the theme "Human Reliability." It marks a crucial effort by OQ to strengthen occupational health and safety standards in workplaces, while contributing to the goals of Oman Vision 2040.


The symposium served as a platform for promoting communication and joint cooperation among partners and contractors to spread the culture of occupational health, safety, and environmental awareness. It attracted international experts in the field, who presented the latest developments and conducted specialized workshops for attendees keen on enhancing their HSSE knowledge. Furthermore, the event aimed to propagate OQ's principles among its partners and contractors, aligning them with the group's HSSE strategy.


Ashraf al Mamari, Chief Executive for People, Technology and Culture of OQ Group, underscored the event's central objective which is enhancing accident prevention and the application of national and international occupational health and safety principles. OQ places paramount importance on raising public awareness to prevent accidents within its companies and facilities. Al Mamari emphasized that such efforts not only safeguard institutional assets but also protect the environment and ensure the sustainability of operations.


The symposium was attended by approximately 400 health and safety specialists from companies operating in the oil, gas, and petrochemical sectors. It reflected OQ Group's unwavering dedication to promoting public awareness of occupational health, safety, and the environment in the Sultanate of Oman.


Al Mamari elaborated on the symposium's purpose, stating, "OQ Group organized this symposium to discuss the best ways to improve occupational health, safety, security, and environmental practices. It also aimed to develop all the necessary frameworks to come up with new ideas that could be applied at different workplaces. The group sought to make use of the latest developments to harness innovation in the fields of health, safety, security, and the environment to decrease human injuries and financial damages."
