SUR: The Secretariat-General of the Tender Board has floated a tender for the design and execution of the second phase of the road linking Wadi Bani Jabir area to the Wilayat of Sur in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate at a cost of more than RO 4 million.
Wadi Bani Jabir area is one of the tourist places in the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate and a key destination for nature-lovers especially domestic tourism thanks to its picturesque mountainous terrain.
Engineer Yusef bin Abdullah al Mijaini, director of road construction department at the Directorate-General of Roads and Land Transport, stated that the second phase of the project involves pavement of 6 km and the work will begin by the end of this year and is expected to be completed within a year.
In comments to ONA, Al Mijaini said the importance of the road lies in its economic value as well as the services it renders to the adjoining areas, noting that the road will boost tourism in the area. He added that the road’s path is bumpy at some points and requires a lot of cutting and backfilling work.
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, completed the first phase of the project, a 16.7 km-long road which connects Wadi Al Minqal and Wadi Bani Jabir in the Wilayat of Sur. — ONA
