SALALAH: A forum on "Strategic Project Governance" concluded in Dhofar Governorate yesterday, September 13, 2023, with a set of recommendations for improving the governance of strategic projects.
The recommendations committee, which was composed of experts from academia, government, and the private sector, concluded that there is a need for a comprehensive guide for implementing governance in strategic projects. This guide should encompass standards, guidelines, policies, work procedures, and performance measurement indicators to assist project departments.
The committee also recommended that governance principles be incorporated into various levels of education to cultivate a generation well-versed in governance principles and their practical application. They also called for the promotion of awareness, a culture of governance, and values of accountability across different institutions.
In addition, the committee recommended that digital governance be prioritized and that its implementation and evaluation be included in strategic projects. They also called for the establishment of an environment conducive to the sustainability of digital transformation, including the provision of necessary infrastructure.
Finally, the committee recommended that collaboration and partnerships be strengthened among diverse institutions and organizations involved in governance to facilitate the swift implementation and dissemination of a culture of good governance.
The recommendations come at a time when there is a growing emphasis on good governance in all aspects of society. The implementation of these recommendations would help to ensure that strategic projects are effectively managed and that the benefits of these projects are maximized.
