The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs, chaired the 25th meeting of justice ministries of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
In his opening speech, Dr Yahya bin Nasser al Khasibi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs, welcomed the guests in the Sultanate of Oman.
“The meeting is part of joint judicial work and to confirm the strengthening of the spirit of cooperation, harmony and brotherhood among the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council.” The meeting agenda includes several important issues awaiting guidance and recommendations, including registering lawyers in the GCC countries. It also aims to address the executive controls and mechanisms to regulate the legal profession for citizens of the GCC countries.
He also stressed the reality of modern technologies and their best use in decision-making and other judicial work.
He praised the efforts of the General Secretariat of (Legislative and Legal Affairs) in following up on implementing the decisions of the Ministers of Justice in the GCC countries.
The meeting discussed several important topics of common interests, including a project to develop an agreement for the implementation of judgments, delegations and judicial declarations in the areas of civil, commercial and personal status matters.
It also includes legal and judicial cooperation in matters of penal code, draft unified rules for combating discrimination and hate speech in the GCC, the rules for juvenile crimes, and the agreement to extradite accused and convicted persons between the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
Counsellor Sultan bin Nasser al Suwaidi, General Secretary Assistant for Legislative and Legal Affairs, praised the efforts of the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs, in managing all technical meetings during its presidency of this session.
