SALALAH: The 56th meeting of the Technical Council of Heads of Standardisation Bodies of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) was held in Salalah on September 10, 2023. The meeting was chaired by Dr Saleh bin Saeed Masan, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion for Commerce and Industry.
The two-day meeting discussed a variety of topics related to the activities of the GCC Standardisation Organisation, including the outputs of the various technical committees, specifications and metrology, and the conformity system. The meeting also followed up on the implementation of the decisions of the previous 55th technical council meeting, and prepared for the sixth meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Standardisation Affairs.
In his opening remarks, Dr Saleh bin Saeed Masan praised the work of the Technical Council and its contributions to promoting joint Gulf work. He also stressed the Sultanate of Oman's commitment to continuing the work of the Technical Council and achieving further progress in joint Gulf standardization.
The key topics discussed at the 56th GCC Technical Council Meeting included the outputs of the Gulf Committee for Conformity Verification, the developments of the International System of Classification of Chemicals (GHS), the outputs of the Gulf Technical Committees for Standards, the implementation of the decision of the Ministerial Committee for Standardisation Affairs on stressing the importance of expanding the application of the Gulf Technical Regulation for Low-voltage Electrical Devices and Equipment, and the memorandum of the Presidency of the Standardisation Organization on the outputs of the meeting of the Gulf Committee for Laboratories and the document of services required to implement the unified Gulf conformity system.
Saud bin Nasser al Khusaibi, Chairman – GCC Standardisation Organisation, emphasized the importance of collective efforts to overcome challenges and achieve the objectives set by the Supreme Council.
He also expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion of Oman for hosting and organizing the meeting. He also commended the efforts of the Director-General of the Directorate General for Specifications and Measurements, Imad al Shukaily, for his exceptional leadership in ensuring the success of the event.
