MUSCAT, SEPT 6
State-owned gas transporter OQ Gas Networks (OQGN), which earlier this week announced its intention to list a 49 per cent stake on the Omani bourse, has outlined a comprehensive five-year strategy to growth its pipeline network.
The ambitious plan, which seek to strengthen OQGN’s position in the energy market, also reflects the company's commitment to delivering reliable and sustainable energy solutions.
The company's growth strategy is built around three pillars: first, continued investments in expanding and improving its natural gas transportation network; second, the acquisition of additional gas transportation assets; and third, diversification into the transportation of various energy sources.
Mansoor al Abdali, Managing Director of OQGN, said that ‘we are actively pursuing diversification as a key component of our growth strategy. Over the next five years, we plan to expand our network by connecting with new partners and improving existing network segments’, he said.
Notably, OQGN seeks to play a critical role in Oman's energy transition by simplifying hydrogen transportation and storage. Furthermore, OQGN distinguishes itself as an innovative institution with a strong commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles, aligning its strategic priorities with Oman's sustainability ambitions, including the pursuit of Net Zero emissions targets.
Al Abdali added: “We currently have two major projects underway to optimize the flow towards Salalah and Sur, addressing bottlenecks in these areas. Furthermore, we are collaborating with Integrated Gas Company (IGC) and Public Authority of Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) to explore opportunities in the Duqm region. This represents our organic growth initiatives. Additionally, we have ambitious plans to participate in alternative energy sources, particularly in the field of hydrogen.”
This comprehensive strategy demonstrates OQGN's commitment to not just growing its operations but also to helping Oman achieve a more sustainable and energy-diverse future, officials stressed.
