Traffic is likely to be heavy on roads as the school students usher in the new academic year on Tuesday after a gap of almost two months.

With the beginning of each new academic year, the Royal Oman Police works well in advance in providing advice and guidance to maintain the safety of students and school bus drivers, in addition to educating vehicle drivers and urging them to cooperate and adhere to traffic regulations for the safety of school students.

The Traffic Safety Institutes had been presenting their daily messages to the bus drivers, educating them on the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations. The Traffic Safety Institutes, led by Al Dakhiliyah and Al Batinah North Governorate Police, organised two awareness lectures.

In the interior, the institute also visited a private school in Nizwa and delivered a lecture to school bus drivers and bus supervisors about safe transportation to and from schools.

In North Al Batinah, the Traffic Safety Institute, in cooperation with the Al Jazeera Sports and Cultural Team, organised an awareness meeting about cooperation with bus drivers while transporting students to their schools or back home.

In Dhofar Governorate, students will begin classes after the holiday and Khareef tourism.

Teachers in public schools have been going through preparatory sessions on Sunday and Monday, preparing the orientation programme for students and their transportation mode to school and home.

But students also have to be cautious, and families must have a dialogue at home on road safety.

According to Drivergent.Com, “The danger zones extend as much as 30 feet from the front bumper, 10 feet from the left and right sides of the bus and 12 feet behind the rear bumper of the school bus. In addition, the area to the bus’ left is always considered dangerous because of passing vehicles.”
