Champions crowned at Girls Basketball Championship

The inaugural championship for girls' basketball preparation centres witnessed exhilarating competitions culminating in victory for the Wolf and Spark teams in the junior and general categories respectively. Held at the sub-hall of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, this championship marked a pioneering endeavour for girls basketball in Oman.


The event was graced by the presence of, Dr Siham bint Mohammed bin Abdullah al Shaibaniyah, advisor at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, and Eng Khalfan bin Saleh al Naabi, Chairman of the Oman Basketball Association, among others from the Oman Basketball Association.


A total of 60 players across 8 teams competed in the junior and women's categories. The matches showcased a diverse range of performances, reflecting the dynamic nature of the sport and the talent of the participants.


Post the riveting matches, Dr Siham al Shaibani, took the stage to bestow honour upon the victorious teams in the first championship for girls’ basketball preparation centres.

The Wolves team secured the top position in the junior category, claiming the cup and gold medals. The Warriors team won the second place and the silver medals. In the general category, Spark won the first-place cup.


In the junior category, Mayson al Habsi won the tournament top-scorer title. The title of the best player in the tournament was taken by Zainab al Moghiri. In the women's category, Zina al Battashi clinched the tournament top-scorer award, while Roba al Kalbani became the best player in the tournament.


The ceremony also recognised the indispensable efforts of the referees and organisers, including Huda bint Mubarak al Hinaiyah, Nidal bint Majid al Moghiriyah, Asila bint Sulaiman al Riyamiyah, Fatima bint Saeed al Numaniyah, Wafaa bint Saif al Samariya, Nasra bint Salim al Harithiya, Mazen bin Khalfan al Hilali, Taha bin Salah al Amiriyah, and Thabit bin Talib al Hinai.


As the championship reached its conclusion, Eng Khalfan al Naabi presented a commemorative shield to Dr Siham al Shaibani as a token of


appreciation.
