MUSCAT: Oman’s Dr Shihab al Riyami was appointed as a technical monitor in the 2023 PPTV 22nd Asian ‘Est Cola’ Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship which will be held in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, during August 30 to September 6.
This selection is followed after a successful participation for Al Riyami in Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC), the volleyball sport's continental governing body, Challenge Cup which was held last July in Taipei.
The FIVB international coach instructor appreciated the AVC’s trust in nominating him for a new AVC Technical Monitor assignment in another senior Asian event.
“The Asian Women's Volleyball Challenge Cup is an international volleyball competition in Asia and Oceania. This event featured the senior women's national teams of the members of AVC. Additionally, this year is very important for all the teams as this edition will act as a qualifier to the Paris Olympic Games 2024. Therefore, I expect tough competition among the participating women teams as every team will vie to secure berths in the Olympic Games including the nominated teams: Japan, China, Thailand , South Korea, Kazakhstan and Australia,” he said.
The AVC technical monitor said this is the 20th AVC mission for him as technical monitor since 2012 as AVC Coaches Committee member. “It is my pleasure and privilege to support our AVC family and contribute to volleyball development in Asia. In addition, I highly appreciate the AVC Coaches Committee for nominating me to the one of the biggest AVC events for Asian women’s volleyball and the last examination of team performance before Paris 2024. Actually, AVC Senior Women’s Cup is considered as the most important women’s volleyball event in Asia and I am extremely satisfied to be chosen again for this tournament.”
Shihab concluded his statement by saying that the AVC is making great contributions in Asian volleyball development and enhancing Asian volleyball teams’ performance through AVC competitions and events.
“Modern volleyball presents many updating aspects such as technical, physical, mental precreation and tactical areas. Athletes’ performance has improved significantly because of the technology, and contributed highly in analysing the game. AVC insists the use of technology has improved volleyball in a variety of ways. I totally believe that FIVB and AVC technology have allowed for increased accuracy in refereeing and performance tracking, in addition to increasing participation in sport with decreasing the risk of athletes’ injuries as well. Modern volleyball refers to many aspects, including the technology in game and training which has high efficiency for game performance,” he ended.
All the participating 14 teams in 2023 PPTV 22nd Asian ‘Est Cola’ Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship will be distributed into four Pools. The hosts, Thailand, are drawn in Group A alongside Magnolia and Australia. Group B comprises India, Iran and Japan. South Korea headed Group C besides Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.
