Oman's martial arts champs made their country proud by bringing home gold, silver and bronze medals at the recently held Fujairah International Taekwondo Training Camp and Competition, where 350 players and coaches from seven countries brushed their skills.
For the first time, teams comprising around 80 coaches and players participated in the annual speed, flexibility, mobility and physical fitness test. Teams from Oman bagged 38 gold medals, 16 silver and ten bronze medals in various categories.
"We are truly proud to have achieved these many medals representing the Sultanate of Oman, and it is the result of dedication, commitment and perseverance of all our Taekwondo champs," said Reza Yaghoubi.
He further said that the teams from Oman had a tough time facing champions who have already proved their skills in the game that has been part of the Olympics since 2000. Oman faced Canada, Netherlands, Iran, Egypt and Tunisia, besides the host country, the UAE.
Major clubs that participated in the Championship are CTC Club, Majan Club, Silla Club, Pro Academy, Ittihad Club, Seeb Star Club, and Gold Club. CTC Club and FMAC Club created the group.
The biggest training camp held for the first time in the GCC was for three days, out of which one day was set aside for various competitions.
Earlier this year, Oman won four medals at the Arab Taekwondo Championship held in Fujairah, where 740 male and female players of different age groups representing more than 20 countries participated in the championship.
Omani team, led by coach Harib bin Khalfan al Abdali, bagged four medals in different categories.
