Ministry’s competition for Sports Projects launched

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth launched on Tuesday the inaugural edition of the Ministry’s competition for the Sports Projects during a press meeting at the Youth Centre in Muscat. The competition, under the theme of 'Share the Change', focused on the physical activity and sports projects that aimed at changing the behaviour of society members towards a healthy lifestyle.


HH Sayyida Hujaija bint Jaifer al Said, Mohammed al Amri, General Manager of Sports Activities, and adviser Khalifa al Issaei were present along with other officials.


Mohammed al Amri said that the competition is an initiative supervised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and supported by many other governmental entities and funded by the Ministry of Economy.


"A healthy life would produce clear results in the society. Also the successful projects and initiatives will be sponsored by the Ministry in this competition and to be implemented on the ground,” he added.


Ibrahim al Shibli, the chairman of the competition, presented the details of the competition to the audience. Competition-related objectives, participating groups/the procedural definition of the groups, competition-related areas, general terms and conditions and the mechanism of differentiation among the projects were explained.


Later, Khalifa al Issaei elaborated on the evaluation criteria namely: Project methodology, creativity and innovation, project management efficiency, the added value to the project, the sustainability and future plans and the social impact.



The competition will be open for all non-governmental teams including: various sports teams and committees of the sports clubs or sports centres, to which they have actual and effective affiliation. Also, the Civil Society Institutions which have voluntary organisations that seek to provide services for themselves and society without charge and Small and Medium Enterprises which are approved and registered enterprises with the Authority of Small and Medium Enterprises Development (SMEs Development Authority) can take part.


The competition will also aim to encourage all members of society to create projects that will ensure living a more healthy and vibrant life by activating physical activity and making it a lifestyle. Also, to cultivate a culture of initiative, creativity and innovation. Moreover, raising the level of physical activity in the society and engaging all segments of society, including individuals, teams and institutions, in sports projects aimed at the society. Besides that, the competition targeted to create sustainable sports projects that will contribute to advancing the process of economic development.


The competition began receiving the projects and initiatives through online platform since August 22 and the deadline to receive the project is scheduled on October 6, 2023 while the filtration process of the winning projects will be during October 8 to 23 and the final ceremony during November and December.


The winning project will get cash prize of RO 5,000 while the second-place project will receive RO 4,000 and the third best project will be awarded RO 3,000. The fourth and fifth place projects will receive RO 2,000 and RO 1,000 respectively.
