SALALAH, AUG 18
Dhofar’s Khareef holiday season affords more than just a memorable holiday amid the governorate’s enchanting subtropical settings. Dhofar Municipality has also laid on array of events spanning tourism, culture, marketing, entertainment, and sports, showcasing the full spectrum of the governorate's offerings.
During the Governors Forum hosted by the Office of the Governor of Dhofar, Dhofar Municipality took the stage on the second day to present a comprehensive account of the forthcoming Khareef activities.
Ahmed al Rawas, representing the Events and Awareness Department at Dhofar Municipality, shed light on the multifaceted offerings of this year's Khareef season. One highlight is the "Salalah Eat" food festival held at Happiness Park, featuring the culinary prowess of Omani chefs and institutions.
Salalah Park, he said, has been transformed into a canvas of radiant displays and artistic renditions that bring to life distinctive elements of some of the governorate’s flora and fauna. Meanwhile, Awqad Park attracts a wide mix of citizens, residents, and tourists, while serving as a recreational setting for children, in particular. Additionally, the park hosts Russian ice circus events and digital tunnel shows.
As the evening descends, Iteen Square erupts into a hub of activity for visitors and tourists alike. The skies above Iteen illuminate with mesmerising lighting and laser displays choreographed by drones. These displays pay homage to Oman's rich heritage and civilisation.
Iteen Square isn't just about visual delights — it houses a plethora of diverse cafes and restaurants, along with consumer exhibitions and electronic and inflatable games. The square comes alive with international musical performances, the Scottish Proximity Carnival, among other offerings.
Moving beyond the square, the "Return to the Past" activities in the Al-Hadj area provide a holistic experience. This immersive experience offers simulated environments mirroring five distinct facets of Dhofar Governorate. From arts squares and heritage markets to Omani meal restaurants and artisanal product displays, visitors are treated to a rich tapestry of Omani culture.
Adding to this delightful spread is the ongoing Chocolate Festival (Chocco Spray) at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah. With over 20 projects dedicated to chocolate on both local and global scales, the festival also boasts the Chocolate Museum featuring more than 100 models, celebrating local and international figures and landmarks.
The Dhofar 2023 Khareef season encompasses an array of other events as well. From the Raysut Beach events to the Samharam tourist village activities and the Al-Dammar Beach "Drag Race" event, the season is a culmination of various cultural, recreational, and sporting experiences.
