Muscat: The Ministry of Tourism has warned citizens against daily renting out properties for commercial purposes without obtaining a license from Ministry.
It said there are chances of wrong practices being followed as such facilities are not subject to supervision by tourism and security apparatus.
The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) has launched a campaign aimed at regulating the activities of hotel establishments, especially unlicensed ones.
There are around 1,700 unlicensed establishments in all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
The campaign is aimed at reducing malpractices that affect the quality of tourism products and services and the reputation of the tourism sector in general, in addition to reducing financial losses. It also leads to fewer new opportunities as some establishments are practicing activities without obtaining licenses.
Khaled al Obaidani, Director General of Tourism Development, said that the campaign will also include owners of (licensed) hotel establishments to ensure that high-quality services are provided to guests by highlighting the license in hotel establishments, including the license number in electronic marketing platforms such as social media accounts for guests to access the license issued by the Ministry.
The campaign will meet investors or citizens practicing the activity of hotel establishments without obtaining the necessary licenses and ask them to meet adjustments in line with regulations to avoid legal consequences.
