The Royal Oman Police (ROP) have advised motorists heading to and from Dhofar Governorate to use the left lane of the mountain road leading to and from Salalah, and leave the right lane for trucks as the road is equally vital for commercial traffic movement.

The social media influencers have been advised to film their visit by safely pulling their cars over to a side and standing at visible spots to avoid untoward incidents.

This comes in the wake of many cars found using different tracks and obstructing the movement of heavy trucks.

Several social media buffs have been found shooting their videos at places where they are not supposed to, jeopardising their lives as well as the other motorists. Hence, they have been urged to document their moments and experiences and share through social media platforms by parking their cars at a safe, designated parking areas and standing away from the road during filming, the ROP has said.

The ROP, in cooperation with the authorities concerned, has been working to provide a safe tourist season free of accidents by deployment of security points.

“This measure is to give a hassle-free visit to Dhofar and back, and we have set patrols on all tracks to respond quickly and provide assistance to those in need. The ROP Operations plays a tangible role in receiving various communications throughout the governorate to study the observations received and evaluate them every day to find out the reasons for the recurrence of some of the communications in certain places. Also, there is coordination and continuous meetings with all government agencies concerned to improve the observations and we try to find appropriate solutions,” said Maj Akef bin Mohammed al Rawas, Assistant Director of Dhofar ROP Operations Department.

As part of its endeavour to ensure safety of the visitors to the governorate, the police has advised families to be watchful of their children by not letting them put hands out of the windows of a moving car, to keep their vehicles away from the pastures so as not to damage the beauty, and to abstain from preparing food using fire and charcoal at tourist spots during their stay there.

“Visitors are requested to abide by the rules and regulations of the region and refrain from harming nature and not to cause harm to oneself,” said Cap Rashid bin Mohammed al Balushi, officer of the Aten Mobile Police Station, who thanked all the visitors for their adherence, commitment and cooperation with the police officers.

“Visitors should turn on the indicator lights at times needed, keep sufficient distance from the vehicle ahead, drive at low speed, and refrain from using mobile phones while driving. Also, one should be attentive to children and don’t let them out of the windows of the vehicle while the vehicle is moving, in order to ensure their safety.”

Additionally, the ROP has set the Wadi Harit Police Station as a reception gate for visitors and gives advice and guidance to motorists to adhere to traffic safety while driving in and around the governorate.

“We work to ease traffic, which sometimes becomes dangerous due to lack of horizontal visibility due to fog, and we are here to provide you all safety and security that you require,” he added.
