Muscat: Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRA) has issued a class three license to the Global Vehicle Management Solutions Company to provide tracking and geolocation services.
As per the agreement, the licensed company will work to provide the geographical location service for fleets of companies or institutions using satellite communication systems, mainly in areas not covered by mobile communications networks.
The license will also contribute to the availability of distress services if requested by vehicle drivers, and obtain a service to determine the geographical location of stranded vehicles. It will also help to track vehicles that have been involved in accidents in remote areas.
TRA said the granting license is in line with the objectives of enabling investment in innovative technologies and services, as well as enhancing competition and providing options for beneficiaries.
GPS vehicle tracking system has several benefits for fleets such as optimized route planning for increased efficiency and productivity, greater accuracy of service times, leading to more satisfied customers, and real-time access to location data, which can help detect and quickly react to theft or unauthorized use and reduced administration time due to less paperwork and fewer phone calls to drivers.
