Oman youth basketball team concludes first camp for Gulf tourney

MUSCAT: The Oman national youth basketball team has successfully concluded its inaugural training camp at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. The camp spanned from July 10 to August 12 and was a crucial part of the team's preparation for the upcoming Gulf Youth Championship, scheduled for mid-August 2024.


The camp was marked by intensive training sessions led by national team coach Zuhair al Ayyash, alongside his assistants Saeed al Saadi, Saif al Tobi and team manager Ghassan al Busaidi.


The training regimen encompassed various aspects of the players' development. These included enhancing both physical and skill levels, refining individual player abilities, and intensifying collective tactical drills in both offensive and defensive strategies.


Tunisian coach Zuhair al Ayyash highlighted that the first camp adhered to the preparation plans devised by the coaching staff and sanctioned by the Oman Basketball Association. The camp was strategically structured to focus initially on fundamental individual skills, followed by collaborative teamwork in both offensive and defensive scenarios, all while prioritising physical fitness.


The training schedule comprised an average of three daily sessions. These sessions encompassed activities such as running and gymnasium workouts. On a weekly basis, the players participated in a total of 13 sessions, ultimately accumulating 62 training sessions by the camp's conclusion. Al Ayyash noted the positive progress observed during the latter stages of training with technical, tactical and physical prowess on the rise.


Emphasising the necessity of intensified efforts, Al Ayyash stressed the importance of enhancing technical and skill aspects, elevating physical fitness and endurance, and refining strategic gameplay. These concerted efforts aim to ensure the team's full preparedness to compete in the upcoming Gulf Championship. He expressed gratitude to the OBA Board of Directors for their unwavering support in providing the necessary resources for the team's preparation.


A total of 21 players actively participated in the camp, including Moeen bin Mansour al Battashi, Mohammad bin Salah al Raisi, Yunus bin Abdullah al Shuraiqi, Ibrahim bin Ismail al Balushi, Mazen bin Mohammad al Owaisi, Qusay bin Salem al Amri, Nour al Din bin Ishaq al Anqoudi, Muath bin Abdullah Ambusaidi, Moayad bin Talib al Battashi, Akram bin Hamad al Rashidi, Yamen bin Farid al Zadjali, Youssef bin Muslim al Tobi, Al Mulhim bin Saeed al Obaidani, Salem bin Malik al Masrouri, Saddam bin Ali al Shizawi, Caesar bin Aqil al Balushi, Mishaal bin Abdulmoneim Qafqaf, Mohab bin Ramadhan al Hambasi, Khaled bin Walid al Mahrezi, Azzan bin Talal al Ajami and Abdulrahman bin Hammoud al Maamari.
