MUSCAT: The Executive Committee of Oman's Green Hydrogen Summit for 2023, led by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, announced the summit's dates, which will take place from December 12 to 15 at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre.

The summit aims to emphasize the importance of renewable energy and green hydrogen by discussing the latest technologies and projects associated with this vital sector. It will address several crucial topics, including global green hydrogen targets, Oman's role in the green hydrogen sector, challenges in large-scale hydrogen production, green hydrogen markets and supply chains, hydrogen-related policies, regulations, and certifications, the global role of hydrogen in energy supply, local value addition, and green hydrogen's contribution to driving the green economy. Additionally, discussions will encompass green financing and its support for the sector, sustainable transportation using hydrogen, including cars and air travel, and innovation in the field of green hydrogen and startups.

The summit is expected to attract participants from around the globe, with over 100 speakers and 50 exhibitors expected. Many international and local energy entities such as Hydrom, BP, Oman Shell, OQ, IEA, Asyad, BMW Group, Vulcan Green Steel, ThyssenKrupp, the Oman Hydrogen Alliance, and the Oman Hydrogen Centre, will be taking part.

Notably, a study conducted by Rethink Energy projects the estimated value of the green hydrogen market to reach $850 billion by 2050, highlighting the significance of enhancing hydrogen's role as a future energy source. This will promote discussions that drive the economies of the future and offer energy solutions to meet the increasing demand for sustainable energy.

It is anticipated that Oman will become a prominent global player in green hydrogen production, given its abundant natural resources and ambitious strategies. The summit presents an opportunity for exchanging technical visions, expanding ideas, and discussions towards the development and progress in this field.

"Guided by our aspirations and empowered by strategic advantages, the Sultanate of Oman is poised, with the grace of Allah Almighty, to emerge as a premier global producer of green hydrogen by 2030. Our strategic vision aligns harmoniously with Oman Vision 2040, encompassing economic diversification, the advancement of renewable energy, and a resolute commitment to carbon emissions reductions on our path towards carbon neutrality by 2050. The momentum behind our newly announced projects and comprehensive hydrogen initiatives stands as a testament to both the allure of our investment landscape and our steadfast dedication to establishing Oman as a leading hydrogen hub and our ambitious energy transition strategy,” commented Dr Firas al Abduwani, Director General of Renewable Energy and Hydrogen, Ministry of Energy and Minerals, Sultanate of Oman

“Oman emerges as a robust ally for green hydrogen, offering a unique confluence of resources and ambition. Collaborative efforts are imperative to harness industry prospects. Events like the Green Hydrogen Summit Oman serve as innovation triggers, uniting technical visionaries to nurture and expand ideas. Scaling new energies is a complex journey, riddled with challenges in technology adoption, and implementation. Yet, our shared commitment drives us to forge a future where collaboration triumphs, and together we surmount obstacles to build a sustainable world,” added Dr Khalil Al Hanashi, Head of GHSO23 Technical Committee.
