Muscat: Hydrogen Systems has secured a contract from Shell Development Oman to spearhead the design, development, and installation of Oman's inaugural hydrogen refueling station to be located in Muscat, according to a report.
Hailing from Saudi Arabia, Hydrogen Systems provide full engineering support, project management, hydrogen safety consulting, manufacturing, and technical services and are committed to delivering comprehensive, cost-effective hydrogen gas solutions across the greater GCC region.
Hydrogen Systems is a Saudi Arabia-based company that provides the most comprehensive and cost-effective hydrogen gas solutions to its customers in the GCC region.
With the establishment of the Hydrogen Energy Center of Excellence, Hydrogen Systems is committed to the localization and development of hydrogen energy and decarbonization solutions to meet the growing demand in the region.
Hydrogen Systems is tasked with executing detailed engineering, procurement, and quality assurance and control of electrolyzers, compression, storage, and dispensing along with all associated subsystems. This development reinforces Oman's position as a leader in the renewable energy sector, specifically hydrogen technology.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) has predicted that Oman could become one of the largest global exporters of hydrogen by 2030, offering renewable hydrogen as economically as $1.6 per kg.
Sattam Alsuwailem, CEO of Hydrogen Systems, highlighted the significance of the collaboration with Shell, saying, "This further solidifies Hydrogen Systems' position as a leader in the hydrogen technology sector, leveraging its expertise and innovative solutions to advance the adoption of hydrogen as a clean and sustainable energy source."
Walid Nadi, Oman Shell's Vice President and Country Chairman, expressed excitement about the project. He noted, "This station will become the first Shell station worldwide to have the hydrogen production plant on site.
This will allow for maximum energy efficiency and for us in Oman Shell to be a pacesetter in the hydrogen industry in Oman."
Earlier this year, Shell signed two agreements to expand its hydrogen commitments in Oman, including the production of liquefied synthetic gas (LSG) from hydrogen and carbon dioxide.
